Connector · Rostering and single sign-on platform

Last updated: October 20, 2026

**ibl.ai publishes a free ClassLink agent skill: a SKILL.md that teaches an AI agent to read ClassLink data and expose it as an MCP tool. Download it, connect your own ClassLink credentials, and run the agent on ibl.ai Agentic OS, where you own all the code and the data.**

ClassLink provides LaunchPad single sign-on and Roster Server, which pulls district SIS data and delivers class rosters (orgs, users, classes, enrollments, courses, terms, resources) to learning apps using OneRoster.

## What is the ClassLink API, and what can an agent read from it?

Roster Server is a 1EdTech-certified OneRoster REST provider for rostering and resources, scoped to what each district shares with a vendor. The SSO API signs users in and returns profile, district and linked-student info.

- API: ClassLink Roster Server (OneRoster 1.1 and 1.2 API); ClassLink OAuth2 SSO API (REST)
- Access: Partner or license program
- Authentication: OAuth 2.0 authorization code (SSO); OAuth 1.0a HMAC-SHA256 signed requests (OneRoster); OAuth 2.0 client credentials (OneRoster 1.2)

Apps integrate as ClassLink partners; each district decides in Roster Server which data a vendor receives. Partner docs live on ClassLink's help site, which did not render for verification.

SSO uses https://launchpad.classlink.com/oauth2/v2/auth and /oauth2/v2/token, then https://nodeapi.classlink.com/v2/my/info. ClassLink's OneRoster sample libraries sign requests with OAuth 1.0a HMAC-SHA256.

### What can an agent read from ClassLink?

- **Orgs and schools** — District and school orgs via the certified OneRoster REST rostering provider.
- **Users** — Students, teachers and other users the district shares with the vendor.
- **Classes and enrollments** — Class rosters and enrollments built from the district SIS.
- **Courses and academic sessions** — Courses and terms through OneRoster rostering endpoints.
- **Resources** — OneRoster Resources service (certified Resources Core and Optional).
- **Signed-in user profile** — nodeapi.classlink.com v2/my/info, v2/my/district, v2/my/profiles and v2/my/students after SSO.

### What can an agent write to ClassLink?

This skill only reads ClassLink data; it documents no write calls, so an agent built on it cannot change a ClassLink record.

Student education records protected by FERPA: identities, demographics and class rosters. Roster Server's DataGuard can mask personally identifiable information before sharing.

## How do I connect ClassLink to an AI agent over MCP?

As of October 2026 we found no MCP server published by ClassLink itself.

The practical path is to host a small MCP server that wraps the ClassLink Roster Server (OneRoster 1.1 and 1.2 API); ClassLink OAuth2 SSO API, or to give the agent the calls directly with the SKILL.md below.

On ibl.ai an MCP connection is three records, and a working integration always needs all three:

1. **Register the server** — `POST …/mcp-servers/` with its URL, a transport (`sse`, `websocket` or `streamable_http`) and an `auth_type` of `none`, `token` or `oauth2`.
2. **Create a connection** that holds the credential, scoped to the whole organization (`platform`), to a single agent, or to each user (`user`).
3. **Enable it on the agent** — `mcp-tool` in `tool_slugs` and the server id in `mcp_servers`. Both lists are replaced, not merged, so read the settings first.

ClassLink supports per-user OAuth, so the server can use `auth_type=oauth2` with `auth_scope=user`: each person connects their own ClassLink account in the chat the first time the agent needs it.

The field reference is in [MCP server connections](https://ibl.ai/developer/platform/mcp/mcp-connections), and the [/iblai-api-agent-mcp](https://ibl.ai/developer/skills/iblai-api-agent-mcp) skill runs all three steps from a coding agent.

## What does the ClassLink agent skill do?

The ClassLink skill is one SKILL.md file named `iblai-connect-classlink`. It gives an agent the auth conventions, what to read, which writes need a person's confirmation, the ibl.ai MCP wiring, example prompts and guardrails.

[Download the ClassLink SKILL.md](https://ibl.ai/developer/connectors/classlink/SKILL.md)

Save it as `.claude/skills/iblai-connect-classlink/SKILL.md`, or in your agent's skills folder. The ibl.ai platform skills it calls come from one install:

```
npx skills add iblai/vibe --all
```

This connector skill is a starting point maintained on ibl.ai, not part of the iblai/vibe repository.

It was checked against ClassLink's documentation on October 20, 2026. Test it against your own ClassLink setup before you rely on it.

### What can I ask a ClassLink agent to do?

- “List the classes and enrolled students our district shares with this app in ClassLink”
- “Show which teachers at Westview Elementary are rostered to 2nd-grade classes”
- “Look up the signed-in ClassLink user's district and linked students”
- “Compare today's Roster Server enrollments with last week's and list the changes”

## How do I run a ClassLink agent on ibl.ai?

[Agentic OS](https://ibl.ai/product/agentic-os) is where the agent runs on ibl.ai: it holds the ClassLink MCP connection, the model the agent uses, its instructions and its conversation history.

On ibl.ai you own all the code and the data, run it model-agnostic across any LLM, and pay with no per-seat pricing — so you can deploy anywhere, from your own cloud to a fully air-gapped network.

## What else should I know before connecting ClassLink to an AI agent?

### Is there an official ClassLink MCP server?

Not that we found as of October 20, 2026: ClassLink documents the ClassLink Roster Server (OneRoster 1.1 and 1.2 API); ClassLink OAuth2 SSO API, not an MCP server of its own.

The SKILL.md on this page gives an agent the integration directly, and any MCP server you host can be registered on ibl.ai.

### Who can get ClassLink API credentials?

Apps integrate as ClassLink partners; each district decides in Roster Server which data a vendor receives. Partner docs live on ClassLink's help site, which did not render for verification.

### Does ClassLink data leave my infrastructure when an ibl.ai agent uses it?

On ibl.ai, you own all the code and the data. Self-hosted in your cloud or data center, the agent, its MCP connections and its conversation logs stay inside your perimeter.

Because the platform is model-agnostic, you can point the agent at a model you host, so ClassLink records need not reach a third-party model provider.

### Is the ClassLink agent skill free to use?

Yes. The SKILL.md is a free download with no sign-up. It assumes you already have ClassLink credentials, and your agreement with ClassLink still governs how you use its API.
