**ibl.ai publishes a free Confluence agent skill: a SKILL.md that teaches an AI agent to read and write Confluence data and expose it as an MCP tool. Download it, connect your own Confluence credentials, and run the agent on ibl.ai Agentic OS, where you own all the code and the data.**

Confluence Cloud holds spaces, pages and blog posts, comments, attachments, labels, whiteboards and the permissions on them, typically used for internal documentation and knowledge bases.

## What is the Confluence API, and what can an agent read from it?

v2 covers pages, blog posts, comments, attachments, spaces, labels, users and whiteboards with cursor paging. CQL search runs on the v1 endpoint /wiki/rest/api/content/search?cql=.

- API: Confluence Cloud REST API v2 (plus v1 CQL search) (REST)
- Access: Public, self-serve
- Base URL: https://{your-domain}.atlassian.net/wiki/api/v2/
- Authentication: Basic auth with email and API token; OAuth 2.0 authorization code (3LO)

Direct calls use basic auth with an Atlassian account API token; apps use OAuth 2.0 or JWT. Results are limited to what the authenticated user can see.

Direct REST calls use basic auth and the user's own permissions. Apps use OAuth 2.0 scopes, such as read:page:confluence for reading pages, or user impersonation.

### What can an agent read from Confluence?

- **Pages** — GET /wiki/api/v2/pages and /pages/{id}; scope read:page:confluence. Cursor paging via the Link header.
- **Pages in a space** — GET /wiki/api/v2/spaces/{id}/pages.
- **CQL search** — GET /wiki/rest/api/content/search?cql=... (v1) for text, label, space and date queries.
- **Spaces, comments, attachments** — v2 resources for spaces, comments, attachments and labels.

### What can an agent write to Confluence?

- **Create page** — POST /wiki/api/v2/pages in a space.
- **Update page** — PUT /wiki/api/v2/pages/{id}; PUT /pages/{id}/title renames a page.
- **Delete page** — DELETE /wiki/api/v2/pages/{id}; needs delete permission in the space. Confirm with the user first.

Limits: Points-based: 1 point per core object, 2 per user or group, writes 1 point. Default global pool 65,000 points/hour; enforced from March 2, 2026 for Forge, Connect and OAuth apps. 429 with Retry-After and RateLimit-Reason.

Pages hold internal documentation, policies and project records; spaces may contain personal data or confidential customer information depending on the organization.

## How do I connect Confluence to an AI agent over MCP?

Atlassian publishes an official MCP server: [Atlassian Rovo MCP Server](https://support.atlassian.com/atlassian-rovo-mcp-server/docs/getting-started-with-the-atlassian-remote-mcp-server/).

Atlassian-hosted at https://mcp.atlassian.com/v2/mcp covering Confluence, Jira and more. OAuth 2.1 or API token; respects user permissions; calls consume Rovo credits.

You can register that server on ibl.ai as it is, or use the SKILL.md below when you want the agent to call the Confluence Cloud REST API v2 (plus v1 CQL search) directly.

On ibl.ai an MCP connection is three records, and a working integration always needs all three:

1. **Register the server** — `POST …/mcp-servers/` with its URL, a transport (`sse`, `websocket` or `streamable_http`) and an `auth_type` of `none`, `token` or `oauth2`.
2. **Create a connection** that holds the credential, scoped to the whole organization (`platform`), to a single agent, or to each user (`user`).
3. **Enable it on the agent** — `mcp-tool` in `tool_slugs` and the server id in `mcp_servers`. Both lists are replaced, not merged, so read the settings first.

Confluence supports per-user OAuth, so the server can use `auth_type=oauth2` with `auth_scope=user`: each person connects their own Confluence account in the chat the first time the agent needs it.

The field reference is in [MCP server connections](https://ibl.ai/developer/platform/mcp/mcp-connections), and the [/iblai-api-agent-mcp](https://ibl.ai/developer/skills/iblai-api-agent-mcp) skill runs all three steps from a coding agent.

## What does the Confluence agent skill do?

The Confluence skill is one SKILL.md file named `iblai-connect-confluence`. It gives an agent the auth conventions, what to read, which writes need a person's confirmation, the ibl.ai MCP wiring, example prompts and guardrails.

[Download the Confluence SKILL.md](https://ibl.ai/developer/connectors/confluence/SKILL.md)

Save it as `.claude/skills/iblai-connect-confluence/SKILL.md`, or in your agent's skills folder. The ibl.ai platform skills it calls come from one install:

```
npx skills add iblai/vibe --all
```

This connector skill is a starting point maintained on ibl.ai, not part of the iblai/vibe repository.

It was checked against Atlassian's documentation on October 20, 2026. Test it against your own Confluence setup before you rely on it.

### What can I ask a Confluence agent to do?

- “Find our current incident response runbook and summarize the escalation steps”
- “Create a meeting notes page in the PRODUCT space under the Q4 Planning page”
- “Which pages in the HR space were updated in the last 30 days?”
- “Update the onboarding checklist page to add the new VPN step”

## How do I run a Confluence agent on ibl.ai?

[Agentic OS](https://ibl.ai/product/agentic-os) is where the agent runs on ibl.ai: it holds the Confluence MCP connection, the model the agent uses, its instructions and its conversation history.

On ibl.ai you own all the code and the data, run it model-agnostic across any LLM, and pay with no per-seat pricing — so you can deploy anywhere, from your own cloud to a fully air-gapped network.

## What else should I know before connecting Confluence to an AI agent?

### Is there an official Confluence MCP server?

Yes. Atlassian publishes [Atlassian Rovo MCP Server](https://support.atlassian.com/atlassian-rovo-mcp-server/docs/getting-started-with-the-atlassian-remote-mcp-server/).

You can register it on ibl.ai as an MCP server, or use the SKILL.md when you want the agent to call the Confluence Cloud REST API v2 (plus v1 CQL search) directly.

### Who can get Confluence API credentials?

Direct calls use basic auth with an Atlassian account API token; apps use OAuth 2.0 or JWT. Results are limited to what the authenticated user can see.

### Does Confluence data leave my infrastructure when an ibl.ai agent uses it?

On ibl.ai, you own all the code and the data. Self-hosted in your cloud or data center, the agent, its MCP connections and its conversation logs stay inside your perimeter.

Because the platform is model-agnostic, you can point the agent at a model you host, so Confluence records need not reach a third-party model provider.

### Is the Confluence agent skill free to use?

Yes. The SKILL.md is a free download with no sign-up. It assumes you already have Confluence credentials, and your agreement with Atlassian still governs how you use its API.
