**ibl.ai publishes a free Google Workspace agent skill: a SKILL.md that teaches an AI agent to read and write Google Workspace data and expose it as an MCP tool. Download it, connect your own Google Workspace credentials, and run the agent on ibl.ai Agentic OS, where you own all the code and the data.**

Google Workspace holds an organization's Gmail mailboxes, Google Drive files and shared drives, Docs, Sheets and Slides, Google Calendar events, Chat spaces, and the user and group directory managed in the Admin console.

## What is the Google Workspace API, and what can an agent read from it?

Separate REST APIs per product: Drive files and permissions, Gmail messages, drafts and labels, Calendar calendars and events, and Admin SDK Directory users, groups and org units for administrators.

- API: Google Workspace APIs (Drive API v3, Gmail API v1, Calendar API v3, Admin SDK Directory API) (REST)
- Access: Public, self-serve
- Authentication: OAuth 2.0 authorization code; Service account; Service account with domain-wide delegation; API key (public data only)

Create a Google Cloud project, enable each API and configure the OAuth consent screen. Domain-wide delegation for a service account must be authorized by a Workspace super admin in the Admin console.

OAuth client IDs access a user's data with consent. Service accounts use a key pair; with domain-wide delegation they act for users across the domain on admin-granted scopes without per-user consent. API keys only reach public data.

### What can an agent read from Google Workspace?

- **Drive files** — GET https://www.googleapis.com/drive/v3/files with a q filter; pageSize up to 1000, pageToken paging. Includes trashed files unless filtered.
- **Gmail messages** — Read messages and threads for a user, addressed as users/{userId} where userId can be me.
- **Calendar events** — List and read events at https://www.googleapis.com/calendar/v3/calendars/{calendarId}/events.
- **Directory users and groups** — Admin SDK Directory API at https://admin.googleapis.com/admin/directory/v1/users; administrators only.

### What can an agent write to Google Workspace?

- **Send email** — POST https://gmail.googleapis.com/gmail/v1/users/{userId}/messages/send; needs gmail.send, gmail.compose, gmail.modify or full mail scope. Confirm with the user first.
- **Calendar events** — POST .../calendars/{calendarId}/events; sendUpdates=all or externalOnly emails guests. Confirm with the user first.
- **Drive files** — Create, upload, update and share files; files.update costs 50 quota units.
- **Directory users** — Create, update and delete user accounts; deleted users can be restored within 20 days. Confirm with the user first.

Limits: Drive API: 1,000,000 quota units per minute per project and 325,000 per minute per user per project; files.list costs 100 units. Over-limit returns 403 User rate limit exceeded or 429; use truncated exponential backoff.

Mail, files and calendars hold confidential business data and personal data; content may include regulated records (health, financial, student) depending on the organization.

## How do I connect Google Workspace to an AI agent over MCP?

Google publishes an official MCP server: [Google Workspace MCP servers](https://developers.google.com/workspace/guides/configure-mcp-servers).

Google-hosted remote servers per product (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Chat, People, Classroom), OAuth 2.0. Developer preview, rollout from May 1, 2026.

You can register that server on ibl.ai as it is, or use the SKILL.md below when you want the agent to call the Google Workspace APIs (Drive API v3, Gmail API v1, Calendar API v3, Admin SDK Directory API) directly.

On ibl.ai an MCP connection is three records, and a working integration always needs all three:

1. **Register the server** — `POST …/mcp-servers/` with its URL, a transport (`sse`, `websocket` or `streamable_http`) and an `auth_type` of `none`, `token` or `oauth2`.
2. **Create a connection** that holds the credential, scoped to the whole organization (`platform`), to a single agent, or to each user (`user`).
3. **Enable it on the agent** — `mcp-tool` in `tool_slugs` and the server id in `mcp_servers`. Both lists are replaced, not merged, so read the settings first.

Google Workspace supports per-user OAuth, so the server can use `auth_type=oauth2` with `auth_scope=user`: each person connects their own Google Workspace account in the chat the first time the agent needs it.

The field reference is in [MCP server connections](https://ibl.ai/developer/platform/mcp/mcp-connections), and the [/iblai-api-agent-mcp](https://ibl.ai/developer/skills/iblai-api-agent-mcp) skill runs all three steps from a coding agent.

## What does the Google Workspace agent skill do?

The Google Workspace skill is one SKILL.md file named `iblai-connect-google-workspace`. It gives an agent the auth conventions, what to read, which writes need a person's confirmation, the ibl.ai MCP wiring, example prompts and guardrails.

[Download the Google Workspace SKILL.md](https://ibl.ai/developer/connectors/google-workspace/SKILL.md)

Save it as `.claude/skills/iblai-connect-google-workspace/SKILL.md`, or in your agent's skills folder. The ibl.ai platform skills it calls come from one install:

```
npx skills add iblai/vibe --all
```

This connector skill is a starting point maintained on ibl.ai, not part of the iblai/vibe repository.

It was checked against Google's documentation on October 20, 2026. Test it against your own Google Workspace setup before you rely on it.

### What can I ask a Google Workspace agent to do?

- “Find the signed MSA for Acme in Drive and summarize the renewal terms”
- “Draft a reply to the latest email from finance about the Q3 budget”
- “Find a 30-minute slot next week when the whole product team is free”
- “List Workspace users who were added in the last 30 days”

## How do I run a Google Workspace agent on ibl.ai?

[Agentic OS](https://ibl.ai/product/agentic-os) is where the agent runs on ibl.ai: it holds the Google Workspace MCP connection, the model the agent uses, its instructions and its conversation history.

On ibl.ai you own all the code and the data, run it model-agnostic across any LLM, and pay with no per-seat pricing — so you can deploy anywhere, from your own cloud to a fully air-gapped network.

## What else should I know before connecting Google Workspace to an AI agent?

### Is there an official Google Workspace MCP server?

Yes. Google publishes [Google Workspace MCP servers](https://developers.google.com/workspace/guides/configure-mcp-servers).

You can register it on ibl.ai as an MCP server, or use the SKILL.md when you want the agent to call the Google Workspace APIs (Drive API v3, Gmail API v1, Calendar API v3, Admin SDK Directory API) directly.

### Who can get Google Workspace API credentials?

Create a Google Cloud project, enable each API and configure the OAuth consent screen. Domain-wide delegation for a service account must be authorized by a Workspace super admin in the Admin console.

### Does Google Workspace data leave my infrastructure when an ibl.ai agent uses it?

On ibl.ai, you own all the code and the data. Self-hosted in your cloud or data center, the agent, its MCP connections and its conversation logs stay inside your perimeter.

Because the platform is model-agnostic, you can point the agent at a model you host, so Google Workspace records need not reach a third-party model provider.

### Is the Google Workspace agent skill free to use?

Yes. The SKILL.md is a free download with no sign-up. It assumes you already have Google Workspace credentials, and your agreement with Google still governs how you use its API.
