Connector · Legal document and email management system

Last updated: October 20, 2026

**ibl.ai publishes a free iManage Work agent skill: a SKILL.md that teaches an AI agent to read and write iManage Work data and expose it as an MCP tool. Download it, connect your own iManage Work credentials, and run the agent on ibl.ai Agentic OS, where you own all the code and the data.**

iManage Work is a document and email management system used by law firms and legal departments. It stores documents, versions and filed email in libraries organized into matter workspaces and folders, with security and ethical walls.

## What is the iManage Work API, and what can an agent read from it?

REST access to documents (profiles, versions, download, upload), workspaces, folders, search, permissions, users and groups. iManage publishes its own connectors that wrap these operations.

- API: iManage Work API (REST, OAuth 2.0) (REST)
- Access: Issued by your administrator
- Authentication: OAuth 2.0

Any custom application must be registered by an iManage Work administrator in Control Center (Applications), which issues the client ID and secret. The full API reference sits on iManage's login-gated support portal.

Applications are registered in iManage Control Center as Web or Native client applications and obtain OAuth 2.0 access tokens over HTTPS instead of using user credentials. Calls run with the user's iManage permissions.

### What can an agent read from iManage Work?

- **Documents** — Document profiles, version history and file download.
- **Workspaces** — Matter workspaces, workspace profiles and workspace templates.
- **Folders** — Folder search and the contents of a container.
- **Search** — Search for documents, workspaces and folders the user is allowed to see.

### What can an agent write to iManage Work?

- **Documents** — Upload a new document to a folder, create a new version, update the profile.
- **Workspaces** — Create a workspace from a template.
- **Document moves and copies** — Copy or move a document to another folder or library.
- **Document delete** — Delete a specified document. Confirm with the user first.

Firm documents and filed email are client confidential and frequently privileged or work product; matter-level security and ethical walls must be honored.

## How do I connect iManage Work to an AI agent over MCP?

iManage publishes an official MCP server: [iManage MCP Server](https://docs.imanage.com/ai/mcpserver-user-help/en-US/Introduction_to_iManage_MCP_Server.html).

Hosted at https://cloudimanage.com/mcp/work (or a custom subdomain), OAuth2. Connectors for Work, Tracker, Search and Insight+. Read tools on by default; admins enable writes.

You can register that server on ibl.ai as it is, or use the SKILL.md below when you want the agent to call the iManage Work API (REST, OAuth 2.0) directly.

On ibl.ai an MCP connection is three records, and a working integration always needs all three:

1. **Register the server** — `POST …/mcp-servers/` with its URL, a transport (`sse`, `websocket` or `streamable_http`) and an `auth_type` of `none`, `token` or `oauth2`.
2. **Create a connection** that holds the credential, scoped to the whole organization (`platform`), to a single agent, or to each user (`user`).
3. **Enable it on the agent** — `mcp-tool` in `tool_slugs` and the server id in `mcp_servers`. Both lists are replaced, not merged, so read the settings first.

For an API key or a service credential, one `token` connection at `platform` scope serves the whole organization; scope a connection to a single agent when that agent needs narrower access than the rest.

The field reference is in [MCP server connections](https://ibl.ai/developer/platform/mcp/mcp-connections), and the [/iblai-api-agent-mcp](https://ibl.ai/developer/skills/iblai-api-agent-mcp) skill runs all three steps from a coding agent.

## What does the iManage Work agent skill do?

The iManage Work skill is one SKILL.md file named `iblai-connect-imanage`. It gives an agent the auth conventions, what to read, which writes need a person's confirmation, the ibl.ai MCP wiring, example prompts and guardrails.

[Download the iManage Work SKILL.md](https://ibl.ai/developer/connectors/imanage/SKILL.md)

Save it as `.claude/skills/iblai-connect-imanage/SKILL.md`, or in your agent's skills folder. The ibl.ai platform skills it calls come from one install:

```
npx skills add iblai/vibe --all
```

This connector skill is a starting point maintained on ibl.ai, not part of the iblai/vibe repository.

It was checked against iManage's documentation on October 20, 2026. Test it against your own iManage Work setup before you rely on it.

### What can I ask an iManage Work agent to do?

- “Find the latest version of the share purchase agreement in the Acme acquisition workspace”
- “List documents added to matter 1234-0001 this week”
- “Save this redline as a new version of document 456789”
- “Create a new matter workspace for Beta Corp from the litigation template”

## How do I run an iManage Work agent on ibl.ai?

[Agentic OS](https://ibl.ai/product/agentic-os) is where the agent runs on ibl.ai: it holds the iManage Work MCP connection, the model the agent uses, its instructions and its conversation history.

On ibl.ai you own all the code and the data, run it model-agnostic across any LLM, and pay with no per-seat pricing — so you can deploy anywhere, from your own cloud to a fully air-gapped network.

## What else should I know before connecting iManage Work to an AI agent?

### Is there an official iManage Work MCP server?

Yes. iManage publishes [iManage MCP Server](https://docs.imanage.com/ai/mcpserver-user-help/en-US/Introduction_to_iManage_MCP_Server.html).

You can register it on ibl.ai as an MCP server, or use the SKILL.md when you want the agent to call the iManage Work API (REST, OAuth 2.0) directly.

### Who can get iManage Work API credentials?

Any custom application must be registered by an iManage Work administrator in Control Center (Applications), which issues the client ID and secret. The full API reference sits on iManage's login-gated support portal.

### Does iManage Work data leave my infrastructure when an ibl.ai agent uses it?

On ibl.ai, you own all the code and the data. Self-hosted in your cloud or data center, the agent, its MCP connections and its conversation logs stay inside your perimeter.

Because the platform is model-agnostic, you can point the agent at a model you host, so iManage Work records need not reach a third-party model provider.

### Is the iManage Work agent skill free to use?

Yes. The SKILL.md is a free download with no sign-up. It assumes you already have iManage Work credentials, and your agreement with iManage still governs how you use its API.
