**ibl.ai publishes a free Microsoft 365 & SharePoint agent skill: a SKILL.md that teaches an AI agent to read and write Microsoft 365 & SharePoint data and expose it as an MCP tool. Download it, connect your own Microsoft 365 & SharePoint credentials, and run the agent on ibl.ai Agentic OS, where you own all the code and the data.**

Microsoft 365 holds an organization's email, calendars, files and chats: Outlook/Exchange mailboxes, OneDrive and SharePoint sites, lists and document libraries, Teams channels and chats, and Microsoft Entra users and groups.

## What is the Microsoft 365 & SharePoint API, and what can an agent read from it?

One endpoint for Microsoft 365 data: users and groups, Outlook mail and calendar, OneDrive and SharePoint sites, lists, list items and drives, Teams teams, channels and messages. Supports JSON batching, delta queries and change notifications.

- API: Microsoft Graph REST API v1.0 (REST)
- Access: Issued by your administrator
- Base URL: https://graph.microsoft.com/v1.0/
- Authentication: OAuth 2.0 authorization code (delegated); OAuth 2.0 client credentials (application)

Register an app in the Microsoft Entra admin center to get an application ID and credential. Delegated permissions need user or admin consent; application permissions and higher-impact scopes need admin consent.

Microsoft identity platform issues a Bearer token. Delegated permissions (scopes) act for a signed-in user, limited by that user's own access; application permissions (app roles) act as the app with no user. Credential: secret, certificate or federated.

### What can an agent read from Microsoft 365 & SharePoint?

- **Mail** — Read a mailbox with GET /me/messages or /users/{id}/messages; supports $filter, $select and $top.
- **Calendar events** — List events with GET /me/events or /users/{id}/events.
- **SharePoint sites and lists** — GET /sites/{site-id}, /sites/{site-id}/lists and /sites/{site-id}/lists/{list-id}/items; sites can be addressed by hostname and path.
- **Files (OneDrive, SharePoint)** — Enumerate document libraries with /sites/{site-id}/drives and a user's files with /me/drive/root/children.
- **Users and groups** — GET /users and /groups for the directory, /me/manager and /me/memberOf for relationships.

### What can an agent write to Microsoft 365 & SharePoint?

- **Send email** — POST /me/sendMail or /users/{id}/sendMail; needs Mail.Send. Returns 202 Accepted and saves to Sent Items by default. Confirm with the user first.
- **Teams channel message** — POST /teams/{team-id}/channels/{channel-id}/messages with delegated ChannelMessage.Send; application permission is for migration only. Confirm with the user first.
- **SharePoint list items** — Create and update listItems; the SharePoint API is read-write for lists, listItems and driveItems but cannot create sites.
- **Files** — Upload or update driveItems in OneDrive or a SharePoint document library.

Limits: Throttling returns HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header; wait that many seconds, else use exponential backoff. Limits vary by service and request type. Each request in a JSON batch is throttled separately. Use delta queries instead of polling.

Mailboxes, files and chats hold confidential business data and personal data; content may include regulated records (health, financial, student) depending on the organization.

## How do I connect Microsoft 365 & SharePoint to an AI agent over MCP?

Microsoft publishes an official MCP server: [Work IQ MCP](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/copilot/extensibility/work-iq/mcp/overview).

Microsoft-hosted, Entra ID auth, tools that read and write Microsoft 365 resource paths. Microsoft MCP Server for Enterprise (preview) covers read-only Entra directory queries.

You can register that server on ibl.ai as it is, or use the SKILL.md below when you want the agent to call the Microsoft Graph REST API v1.0 directly.

On ibl.ai an MCP connection is three records, and a working integration always needs all three:

1. **Register the server** — `POST …/mcp-servers/` with its URL, a transport (`sse`, `websocket` or `streamable_http`) and an `auth_type` of `none`, `token` or `oauth2`.
2. **Create a connection** that holds the credential, scoped to the whole organization (`platform`), to a single agent, or to each user (`user`).
3. **Enable it on the agent** — `mcp-tool` in `tool_slugs` and the server id in `mcp_servers`. Both lists are replaced, not merged, so read the settings first.

Microsoft 365 & SharePoint supports per-user OAuth, so the server can use `auth_type=oauth2` with `auth_scope=user`: each person connects their own Microsoft 365 & SharePoint account in the chat the first time the agent needs it.

The field reference is in [MCP server connections](https://ibl.ai/developer/platform/mcp/mcp-connections), and the [/iblai-api-agent-mcp](https://ibl.ai/developer/skills/iblai-api-agent-mcp) skill runs all three steps from a coding agent.

## What does the Microsoft 365 & SharePoint agent skill do?

The Microsoft 365 & SharePoint skill is one SKILL.md file named `iblai-connect-microsoft-365`. It gives an agent the auth conventions, what to read, which writes need a person's confirmation, the ibl.ai MCP wiring, example prompts and guardrails.

[Download the Microsoft 365 & SharePoint SKILL.md](https://ibl.ai/developer/connectors/microsoft-365/SKILL.md)

Save it as `.claude/skills/iblai-connect-microsoft-365/SKILL.md`, or in your agent's skills folder. The ibl.ai platform skills it calls come from one install:

```
npx skills add iblai/vibe --all
```

This connector skill is a starting point maintained on ibl.ai, not part of the iblai/vibe repository.

It was checked against Microsoft's documentation on October 20, 2026. Test it against your own Microsoft 365 & SharePoint setup before you rely on it.

### What can I ask a Microsoft 365 & SharePoint agent to do?

- “Summarize unread emails from my manager this week and draft replies”
- “List every item in the Contracts list on the Legal SharePoint site that expires in Q1”
- “Find the latest version of the pricing deck in our Sales document library”
- “Post the release notes to the Engineering channel in Teams”

## How do I run a Microsoft 365 & SharePoint agent on ibl.ai?

[Agentic OS](https://ibl.ai/product/agentic-os) is where the agent runs on ibl.ai: it holds the Microsoft 365 & SharePoint MCP connection, the model the agent uses, its instructions and its conversation history.

On ibl.ai you own all the code and the data, run it model-agnostic across any LLM, and pay with no per-seat pricing — so you can deploy anywhere, from your own cloud to a fully air-gapped network.

## What else should I know before connecting Microsoft 365 & SharePoint to an AI agent?

### Is there an official Microsoft 365 & SharePoint MCP server?

Yes. Microsoft publishes [Work IQ MCP](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/copilot/extensibility/work-iq/mcp/overview).

You can register it on ibl.ai as an MCP server, or use the SKILL.md when you want the agent to call the Microsoft Graph REST API v1.0 directly.

### Who can get Microsoft 365 & SharePoint API credentials?

Register an app in the Microsoft Entra admin center to get an application ID and credential. Delegated permissions need user or admin consent; application permissions and higher-impact scopes need admin consent.

### Does Microsoft 365 & SharePoint data leave my infrastructure when an ibl.ai agent uses it?

On ibl.ai, you own all the code and the data. Self-hosted in your cloud or data center, the agent, its MCP connections and its conversation logs stay inside your perimeter.

Because the platform is model-agnostic, you can point the agent at a model you host, so Microsoft 365 & SharePoint records need not reach a third-party model provider.

### Is the Microsoft 365 & SharePoint agent skill free to use?

Yes. The SKILL.md is a free download with no sign-up. It assumes you already have Microsoft 365 & SharePoint credentials, and your agreement with Microsoft still governs how you use its API.
