# Start Screen

## Overview

The Start screen is an optional set-up flow that helps a new learner build a learning profile before they reach the [Home page](../catalog/home.md). Over a few slides the learner picks their role, adds and rates their skills, and optionally adds a photo, social links, and a resume. The LMS uses this profile to personalize recommendations.

The Start screen runs full-screen, without the usual sidebar and top bar: the organization's logo sits at the top and a fixed footer holds **Previous**, slide dots, and **Next** (**Get Started** on the last slide).

Learners are sent here automatically when they open the LMS before reporting any skills, as long as the organization has turned the Start screen on. Otherwise they go straight to Home. Each slide after the welcome can be turned off on its own in the organization's settings.

## Slides

#### Welcome
"Welcome to" followed by the organization's display name, with a short introduction to setting up a learning profile.

#### Select Your Role
A searchable list ("Search for a role") of job roles. Pick the one that best describes you. Administrators can hide this slide with the "Roles Screen on Start Page" setting.

#### Add Skills to Your Profile
Search for skills ("Search for a skill") and add them. A **Self Rate Your Skills** table then lists each added skill with columns **Skill**, **Self Rating**, and **Source** ("Added Skill"). Rate each skill from 1 to 5: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, or Expert. Click **Remove** to drop a skill. Every skill needs a rating before you can continue ("Please rate all skills to continue."). With no skills added, the table reads "No skills selected yet". Hidden by the "Skills Screen on Start Page" setting.

#### Profile picture, social networks, and resume
Optional extras: a **Profile Picture**, links under **Social Networks** (LinkedIn Profile, X Profile, Facebook Profile), and a resume upload ("Drag and drop your resume here", PDF up to 25MB). The resume field is hidden when the organization has turned resumes off. Hidden by the "Resume Screen on Start Page" setting.

#### Start Boosting Your Skills!
The closing slide: "Check our content selection or manually add more learning items". Hidden by the "Get Started Screen on Start Page" setting.

## How to Use

#### Step 2: Add and rate your skills

#### Step 3: Finish
