Chapter 9Student Success Never Sleeps
Students rarely leave a university because of a single event. More often, they leave because small moments of uncertainty, frustration, isolation, and discouragement accumulate until continuing no longer seems possible.
Universities and their students celebrate graduation. Commencement marks one of the most significant achievements in a person's life. Years of study, sacrifice, persistence, and intellectual growth culminate in a ceremony that recognizes academic accomplishment and personal transformation. Families celebrate. The faculty applauds. Communities take pride in the graduates they have helped prepare.
What commencement rarely reveals, however, are the countless moments that made graduation possible.
