FactSet MCP Server & Agent Skill
Last updated
ibl.ai publishes a free FactSet agent skill: a SKILL.md that teaches an AI agent to read FactSet data and expose it as an MCP tool. Download it, connect your own FactSet credentials, and run the agent on ibl.ai Agentic OS, where you own all the code and the data.
FactSet supplies company fundamentals, estimates, prices, ownership, people, M&A, events, transcripts and fund data to investment and banking firms through its workstation, feeds and APIs.
What is the FactSet API, and what can an agent read from it?
Content APIs for fundamentals, estimates, global prices, ownership, people, entity reference, events, M&A, private markets and funds, plus the Formula API (FQL and screening). Try-it-out console in the portal.
- API: FactSet APIs (Developer Portal) (REST)
- Access: Issued by your administrator
- Authentication: OAuth 2.0 client credentials; OAuth 2.0 authorization code; API key (HTTP Basic, username-serial:key)
Needs a FactSet subscription and username-serial. Log in to the Developer Portal with a corporate email and create credentials under Profile > API Authentication; entitlements follow the licensed account.
OAuth 2.0 is FactSet's preferred method; confidential clients use a client secret or private key JWT. API keys use Basic auth with username-serial and key and are bound to whitelisted IP ranges.
What can an agent read from FactSet?
- Fundamentals โ Current and historical company financials with audit trail (MCP tool FactSet_Fundamentals).
- Consensus estimates โ Estimates, surprises, ratings and guidance (FactSet_EstimatesConsensus).
- Prices โ Stock prices, returns, volume and corporate actions back to 2006 (FactSet_GlobalPrices).
- Ownership โ Fund holdings, institutional ownership and insider trades (FactSet_Ownership).
- People and entities โ Executive profiles, boards and entity reference for 16M+ entities.
- Events and transcripts โ Calendar events plus CallStreet transcripts, StreetAccount news and EDGAR filings.
What can an agent write to FactSet?
This skill only reads FactSet data; it documents no write calls, so an agent built on it cannot change a FactSet record.
Licensed market and company data: use, storage and redistribution are bound by the FactSet subscription and content entitlements. Not customer NPI unless joined with client records.
How do I connect FactSet to an AI agent over MCP?
FactSet publishes an official MCP server: FactSet AI-Ready Data MCP.
Server https://mcp.factset.com/content/v1 with 23 data tools (fundamentals, estimates, prices, ownership, M&A and more); access follows the user's FactSet entitlements.
You can register that server on ibl.ai as it is, or use the SKILL.md below when you want the agent to call the FactSet APIs (Developer Portal) directly.
On ibl.ai an MCP connection is three records, and a working integration always needs all three:
- Register the server โ
POST โฆ/mcp-servers/with its URL, a transport (sse,websocketorstreamable_http) and anauth_typeofnone,tokenoroauth2. - Create a connection that holds the credential, scoped to the whole organization (
platform), to a single agent, or to each user (user). - Enable it on the agent โ
mcp-toolintool_slugsand the server id inmcp_servers. Both lists are replaced, not merged, so read the settings first.
FactSet supports per-user OAuth, so the server can use auth_type=oauth2 with auth_scope=user: each person connects their own FactSet account in the chat the first time the agent needs it.
The field reference is in MCP server connections, and the /iblai-api-agent-mcp skill runs all three steps from a coding agent.
What does the FactSet agent skill do?
The FactSet skill is one SKILL.md file named iblai-connect-factset. It gives an agent the auth conventions, what to read, which writes need a person's confirmation, the ibl.ai MCP wiring, example prompts and guardrails.
Save it as .claude/skills/iblai-connect-factset/SKILL.md, or in your agent's skills folder. The ibl.ai platform skills it calls come from one install:
$ npx skills add iblai/vibe --allThis connector skill is a starting point maintained on ibl.ai, not part of the iblai/vibe repository.
It was checked against FactSet's documentation on October 20, 2026. Test it against your own FactSet setup before you rely on it.
What can I ask a FactSet agent to do?
- โCompare consensus EPS for the next two fiscal years across JPM, BAC and WFCโ
- โWho are the top 10 institutional holders of this company and how did they change last quarter?โ
- โList public M&A deals in regional banking announced this year with deal valuesโ
- โSummarize what management said about deposit costs on the last earnings callโ
How do I run a FactSet agent on ibl.ai?
Agentic OS is where the agent runs on ibl.ai: it holds the FactSet MCP connection, the model the agent uses, its instructions and its conversation history.
On ibl.ai you own all the code and the data, run it model-agnostic across any LLM, and pay with no per-seat pricing โ so you can deploy anywhere, from your own cloud to a fully air-gapped network.

What else should I know before connecting FactSet to an AI agent?
Is there an official FactSet MCP server?
Yes. FactSet publishes FactSet AI-Ready Data MCP.
You can register it on ibl.ai as an MCP server, or use the SKILL.md when you want the agent to call the FactSet APIs (Developer Portal) directly.
Who can get FactSet API credentials?
Needs a FactSet subscription and username-serial. Log in to the Developer Portal with a corporate email and create credentials under Profile > API Authentication; entitlements follow the licensed account.
Does FactSet data leave my infrastructure when an ibl.ai agent uses it?
On ibl.ai, you own all the code and the data. Self-hosted in your cloud or data center, the agent, its MCP connections and its conversation logs stay inside your perimeter.
Because the platform is model-agnostic, you can point the agent at a model you host, so FactSet records need not reach a third-party model provider.
Is the FactSet agent skill free to use?
Yes. The SKILL.md is a free download with no sign-up. It assumes you already have FactSet credentials, and your agreement with FactSet still governs how you use its API.
