PowerSchool SIS MCP Server & Agent Skill
Last updated
ibl.ai publishes a free PowerSchool SIS agent skill: a SKILL.md that teaches an AI agent to read and write PowerSchool SIS data and expose it as an MCP tool. Download it, connect your own PowerSchool SIS credentials, and run the agent on ibl.ai Agentic OS, where you own all the code and the data.
PowerSchool SIS is a K-12 student information system. It holds district and school records, students and staff, class sections and enrollments, gradebook data, and the PowerQueries used for reports, exports and state reporting.
What is the PowerSchool SIS API, and what can an agent read from it?
A district-installed plugin declares the data it may read and gets OAuth client credentials for data exchange, including named PowerQueries. The SIS is also 1EdTech-certified as a OneRoster 1.1/1.2 REST provider for rostering and gradebook.
- API: PowerSchool SIS plugin data access (PowerQueries); OneRoster 1.1 and 1.2 REST provider (REST)
- Access: Issued by your administrator
- Authentication: OAuth 2.0 client credentials (per plugin)
A district admin installs and enables the plugin; PowerSchool auto-generates its client ID and secret (Data Provider Configuration). The developer API reference sits in PowerSource, which requires a PowerSchool login.
Each data-exchange plugin gets an auto-generated client ID and secret that the external system uses to obtain an access token. Data is limited by the plugin's access request and the school access an admin configures.
What can an agent read from PowerSchool SIS?
- Schools and academic sessions — Orgs, schools and terms through the certified OneRoster rostering provider.
- Students, teachers and staff — User records through OneRoster rostering or plugin data access, limited to what the plugin requests.
- Classes and enrollments — Course sections and student/teacher enrollments through OneRoster rostering.
- Gradebook line items and results — Certified OneRoster Gradebook Pull (1.1 and 1.2) and Assessment Results Profile pull (1.2).
- PowerQuery result sets — Core, state-reporting and custom PowerQueries a plugin is granted; results depend on page permissions.
What can an agent write to PowerSchool SIS?
- Gradebook line items and scores — Certified OneRoster 1.1 Gradebook Push: an external app writes assignments and scores into the SIS gradebook. Confirm with the user first.
Student education records protected by FERPA, including demographics, enrollment and grades; may include state-reporting identifiers and special-program data.
How do I connect PowerSchool SIS to an AI agent over MCP?
As of October 2026 we found no MCP server published by PowerSchool itself.
The practical path is to host a small MCP server that wraps the PowerSchool SIS plugin data access (PowerQueries); OneRoster 1.1 and 1.2 REST provider, or to give the agent the calls directly with the SKILL.md below.
On ibl.ai an MCP connection is three records, and a working integration always needs all three:
- Register the server —
POST …/mcp-servers/with its URL, a transport (sse,websocketorstreamable_http) and anauth_typeofnone,tokenoroauth2. - Create a connection that holds the credential, scoped to the whole organization (
platform), to a single agent, or to each user (user). - Enable it on the agent —
mcp-toolintool_slugsand the server id inmcp_servers. Both lists are replaced, not merged, so read the settings first.
For an API key or a service credential, one token connection at platform scope serves the whole organization; scope a connection to a single agent when that agent needs narrower access than the rest.
The field reference is in MCP server connections, and the /iblai-api-agent-mcp skill runs all three steps from a coding agent.
What does the PowerSchool SIS agent skill do?
The PowerSchool SIS skill is one SKILL.md file named iblai-connect-powerschool-sis. It gives an agent the auth conventions, what to read, which writes need a person's confirmation, the ibl.ai MCP wiring, example prompts and guardrails.
Download the PowerSchool SIS SKILL.md
Save it as .claude/skills/iblai-connect-powerschool-sis/SKILL.md, or in your agent's skills folder. The ibl.ai platform skills it calls come from one install:
$ npx skills add iblai/vibe --allThis connector skill is a starting point maintained on ibl.ai, not part of the iblai/vibe repository.
It was checked against PowerSchool's documentation on October 20, 2026. Test it against your own PowerSchool SIS setup before you rely on it.
What can I ask a PowerSchool SIS agent to do?
- “List every student enrolled in Algebra I sections at Lincoln Middle School this term”
- “Pull this quarter's gradebook scores for 7th-grade science and flag missing assignments”
- “Run the attendance PowerQuery our plugin has access to and summarize chronic absences”
- “Push the unit test scores from our assessment app into the PowerSchool gradebook”
How do I run a PowerSchool SIS agent on ibl.ai?
Agentic OS is where the agent runs on ibl.ai: it holds the PowerSchool SIS MCP connection, the model the agent uses, its instructions and its conversation history.
On ibl.ai you own all the code and the data, run it model-agnostic across any LLM, and pay with no per-seat pricing — so you can deploy anywhere, from your own cloud to a fully air-gapped network.

Which ibl.ai agents work with PowerSchool SIS data?
- School Administrator — K-12
- Family Communicator — K-12
Which ibl.ai platform skills does a PowerSchool SIS agent use?
- /iblai-api-agent-mcp — MCP connectors for ibl.ai agents, end to end
- /iblai-vibe-agent-mcp — Add the agent MCP tab (Model Context Protocol connector management with featured connectors, custom connectors, OAuth,…
- /iblai-api-agent-tool — Enable or disable an ibl.ai agent's tools via the platform API
What else should I know before connecting PowerSchool SIS to an AI agent?
Is there an official PowerSchool SIS MCP server?
Not that we found as of October 20, 2026: PowerSchool documents the PowerSchool SIS plugin data access (PowerQueries); OneRoster 1.1 and 1.2 REST provider, not an MCP server of its own.
The SKILL.md on this page gives an agent the integration directly, and any MCP server you host can be registered on ibl.ai.
Who can get PowerSchool SIS API credentials?
A district admin installs and enables the plugin; PowerSchool auto-generates its client ID and secret (Data Provider Configuration). The developer API reference sits in PowerSource, which requires a PowerSchool login.
Does PowerSchool SIS data leave my infrastructure when an ibl.ai agent uses it?
On ibl.ai, you own all the code and the data. Self-hosted in your cloud or data center, the agent, its MCP connections and its conversation logs stay inside your perimeter.
Because the platform is model-agnostic, you can point the agent at a model you host, so PowerSchool SIS records need not reach a third-party model provider.
Is the PowerSchool SIS agent skill free to use?
Yes. The SKILL.md is a free download with no sign-up. It assumes you already have PowerSchool SIS credentials, and your agreement with PowerSchool still governs how you use its API.
