Mailchimp MCP Server & Agent Skill

Last updated

ibl.ai publishes a free Mailchimp agent skill: a SKILL.md that teaches an AI agent to read and write Mailchimp data and expose it as an MCP tool. Download it, connect your own Mailchimp credentials, and run the agent on ibl.ai Agentic OS, where you own all the code and the data.

Email marketing platform. A Mailchimp account holds audiences (lists) and their contacts with subscription status, tags and segments, plus campaigns, templates, automations and campaign reports.

What is the Mailchimp API, and what can an agent read from it?

REST API (version 3.0) for audiences/lists, list members, tags, segments, campaigns, campaign content and reports, plus a Batch endpoint for long-running bulk work. Lists use count (max 1,000) and offset paging.

  • API: Mailchimp Marketing API (REST)
  • Access: Public, self-serve
  • Base URL: https://api.mailchimp.com/3.0/
  • Authentication: API key (HTTP Basic); OAuth 2.0 authorization code

Account users authenticate with a Mailchimp API key. Apps that act for other Mailchimp users register an OAuth app in the Registered Apps dashboard and store the client secret securely.

With an API key, send Basic auth with any string as the username and the key as the password. OAuth apps send users to https://login.mailchimp.com/oauth2/authorize and exchange the code at https://login.mailchimp.com/oauth2/token.

What can an agent read from Mailchimp?

  • Audiences (lists) β€” Lists endpoint returns audiences with stats and settings.
  • List members β€” Members of an audience with email, subscription status, merge fields and tags.
  • Campaigns β€” GET /campaigns lists campaigns with status, settings and send time; count and offset paging.
  • Reports β€” Campaign reports: opens, clicks, bounces and unsubscribes.
  • Ping β€” GET /ping is a health check that confirms credentials without changing the account.

What can an agent write to Mailchimp?

  • Add or update contact β€” Add or update a list member, including subscription status and tags.
  • Create campaign β€” Create a campaign and set its content and audience.
  • Send campaign β€” Send or schedule a campaign to an audience; emails go out to real recipients. Confirm with the user first.
  • Batch operations β€” Submit many operations as one asynchronous Batch request.

Limits: 10 simultaneous connections per user (not per key); over that returns HTTP 429. Calls time out after 120 seconds; use the Batch endpoint for long work. Paging: count default 10, max 1,000, with offset.

Holds consumer contact data and marketing consent (subscription status, opt-in records). Sending must respect unsubscribe and consent rules such as CAN-SPAM and GDPR.

How do I connect Mailchimp to an AI agent over MCP?

Mailchimp publishes an official MCP server: Mailchimp developer docs MCP server.

Searches Marketing API documentation only, not your account, and needs no credential. A separate Transactional MCP (https://mandrillapp.com/mcp) covers Mandrill transactional email.

You can register that server on ibl.ai as it is, or use the SKILL.md below when you want the agent to call the Mailchimp Marketing API directly.

On ibl.ai an MCP connection is three records, and a working integration always needs all three:

  1. Register the server β€” POST …/mcp-servers/ with its URL, a transport (sse, websocket or streamable_http) and an auth_type of none, token or oauth2.
  2. Create a connection that holds the credential, scoped to the whole organization (platform), to a single agent, or to each user (user).
  3. Enable it on the agent β€” mcp-tool in tool_slugs and the server id in mcp_servers. Both lists are replaced, not merged, so read the settings first.

Mailchimp supports per-user OAuth, so the server can use auth_type=oauth2 with auth_scope=user: each person connects their own Mailchimp account in the chat the first time the agent needs it.

The field reference is in MCP server connections, and the /iblai-api-agent-mcp skill runs all three steps from a coding agent.

What does the Mailchimp agent skill do?

The Mailchimp skill is one SKILL.md file named iblai-connect-mailchimp. It gives an agent the auth conventions, what to read, which writes need a person's confirmation, the ibl.ai MCP wiring, example prompts and guardrails.

Download the Mailchimp SKILL.md

Save it as .claude/skills/iblai-connect-mailchimp/SKILL.md, or in your agent's skills folder. The ibl.ai platform skills it calls come from one install:

$ npx skills add iblai/vibe --all

This connector skill is a starting point maintained on ibl.ai, not part of the iblai/vibe repository.

It was checked against Mailchimp's documentation on October 20, 2026. Test it against your own Mailchimp setup before you rely on it.

What can I ask a Mailchimp agent to do?

  • β€œHow many contacts joined our main Mailchimp audience last month?”
  • β€œShow open and click rates for our last five campaigns”
  • β€œTag every subscriber who clicked the spring sale email with spring-buyer”
  • β€œDraft a campaign to the VIP segment but do not send it”

How do I run a Mailchimp agent on ibl.ai?

Agentic OS is where the agent runs on ibl.ai: it holds the Mailchimp MCP connection, the model the agent uses, its instructions and its conversation history.

On ibl.ai you own all the code and the data, run it model-agnostic across any LLM, and pay with no per-seat pricing β€” so you can deploy anywhere, from your own cloud to a fully air-gapped network.

Which ibl.ai agents work with Mailchimp data?

Which ibl.ai platform skills does a Mailchimp agent use?

  • /iblai-api-agent-mcp β€” MCP connectors for ibl.ai agents, end to end
  • /iblai-vibe-agent-mcp β€” Add the agent MCP tab (Model Context Protocol connector management with featured connectors, custom connectors, OAuth,…
  • /iblai-api-agent-tool β€” Enable or disable an ibl.ai agent's tools via the platform API

What else should I know before connecting Mailchimp to an AI agent?

Is there an official Mailchimp MCP server?

Yes. Mailchimp publishes Mailchimp developer docs MCP server.

You can register it on ibl.ai as an MCP server, or use the SKILL.md when you want the agent to call the Mailchimp Marketing API directly.

Who can get Mailchimp API credentials?

Account users authenticate with a Mailchimp API key. Apps that act for other Mailchimp users register an OAuth app in the Registered Apps dashboard and store the client secret securely.

Does Mailchimp data leave my infrastructure when an ibl.ai agent uses it?

On ibl.ai, you own all the code and the data. Self-hosted in your cloud or data center, the agent, its MCP connections and its conversation logs stay inside your perimeter.

Because the platform is model-agnostic, you can point the agent at a model you host, so Mailchimp records need not reach a third-party model provider.

Is the Mailchimp agent skill free to use?

Yes. The SKILL.md is a free download with no sign-up. It assumes you already have Mailchimp credentials, and your agreement with Mailchimp still governs how you use its API.

Which other data sources can an AI agent connect to alongside Mailchimp?

Which other Small Business systems have a connector?

Every connector, grouped by sector, is on the connectors hub.
