What is the Salesforce Education Cloud API, and what can an agent read from it?

Education Cloud standard objects (e.g. LearnerProfile, AcademicTermEnrollment, CourseOfferingParticipant, ApplicationReview) use the standard REST and SOAP APIs and SOQL. Business APIs under /connect/education handle course offerings, learnings and holds.

An org admin creates an External Client App (new Connected Apps are restricted from Spring '26) with OAuth enabled and grants the integration user object and field permissions. Education Cloud must be enabled in the org.

REST API calls send an OAuth 2.0 access token as a Bearer token, obtained through one of Salesforce's OAuth flows for the External Client App or Connected App. Results follow the user's object, field and sharing access.

What can an agent read from Salesforce Education Cloud?

• Learner profiles — LearnerProfile (API v63.0+) holds a learner's profile information; query it with SOQL.
• Academic term enrollments — AcademicTermEnrollment (API v57.0+): a student's enrollment in a term, with academic standing and cumulative GPA.
• Course offering participants — CourseOfferingParticipant and related grade and result objects for a learner in a course offering.
• Applications and reviews — ApplicationDecision, ApplicationReview and ApplicationTimeline records for admissions.
• Attendance — AttendanceEntry and AttendanceRecording objects for class attendance.
• Learnings — GET /connect/education/academic-operations/learnings/{learningId} returns details of a course or program.

What can an agent write to Salesforce Education Cloud?

• Course offerings — POST /connect/education/academic-operations/course-offering creates course offerings; a sub-resource adds the course schedule.
• Holds — POST /connect/education/holds places holds on learners, which can block their actions. Confirm with the user first.
• Create or update records — sObject POST and PATCH on Education Cloud and standard objects, within the user's permissions.
• Delete records — sObject DELETE on records the user can delete. Confirm with the user first.

Limits: Query results come in batches (default and maximum 2,000 records, minimum 200); follow nextRecordsUrl for the next batch. Org-wide API request limits apply and return REQUEST_LIMIT_EXCEEDED when exceeded.

Applicant data and, for enrolled students, FERPA education records such as GPA, enrollments and attendance. Limit the integration user's object and field access to what a task needs.

How do I connect Salesforce Education Cloud to an AI agent over MCP?

Salesforce publishes an official MCP server: Salesforce Hosted MCP Servers.

Salesforce-hosted standard MCP servers (e.g. SObject All, SObject Reads) expose an org's standard and custom objects under the user's permissions and sharing rules.

You can register that server on ibl.ai as it is, or use the SKILL.md below when you want the agent to call the Salesforce REST API (sObjects, SOQL), Education Cloud Business APIs (Connect REST) directly.

On ibl.ai an MCP connection is three records, and a working integration always needs all three:

1. Register the server — POST …/mcp-servers/ with its URL, a transport (sse, websocket or streamable_http) and an auth_type of none, token or oauth2.
2. Create a connection that holds the credential, scoped to the whole organization (platform), to a single agent, or to each user (user).
3. Enable it on the agent — mcp-tool in tool_slugs and the server id in mcp_servers. Both lists are replaced, not merged, so read the settings first.

For an API key or a service credential, one token connection at platform scope serves the whole organization; scope a connection to a single agent when that agent needs narrower access than the rest.
